11 diabetes patients passed away after they underwent dialysis using Granuflo and Naturalyte, based on info taken from online news sources. Consequently, the loved ones of these alleged victims filed a Granuflo lawsuit against Fresenius Medical Care, demanding compensation for all the damages they have suffered. These Granuflo lawsuits were filed in various courts across the country, including Georgia, Ohio, Kentucky, Virginia, Texas, Illinois, California, and Florida. Based on released court documents, the deaths occurred between 2010 and 2012.
Naturalyte and Granuflo are vital components used in dialysis treatment. Both products are manufactured by Fresenius Medical Care, the operator of most dialysis facilities in the country. They were first presented to the U.S. market in 2003, and became very popular afterwards. In spite of their status, however, numerous dialysis patients allegedly suffered from severe complications after being administered with the above products. This prompted Fresenius to conduct research studies in order to determine the root cause of the reported problems.
Findings from these studies reportedly linked the use of Naturalyte and Granuflo to an increased risk of heart attacks and strokes. In fact, a number of patients involved in the research reportedly developed heart complications after being administered with the dialysis products. Moreover, some of the patients reportedly passed away due to the severity of their conditions.
When Fresenius confirmed the dangers of Granuflo and Naturalyte, the company immediately sent a warning memo to its own dialysis centers. However, the company did not immediately inform other facilities that are also using the products. Be that as it may, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) was anonymously sent a copy of the company’s internal memo a year later, which impelled the agency to issue a class I recall of Naturalyte and Granuflo.
Following the recall of Granuflo and Naturalyte, several patients allegedly injured by the products filed a lawsuit against the manufacturing company, Fresenius Medical Care. According to the cases, the alleged dialysis products can potentially cause fatal complications, such as heart attacks, strokes, and other heart-related adverse effects.
